incredibly full can of coke

normally when you get a can, the level of liquid is some way down from the rim. not in this coke. i got it from the can machine by the lift -- managed to splash all my work when i opened it. the level was right to the brim. here is a rubbish picture to prove it:

slow news day?

news like this makes me smile: Pelican swallows pigeon in park [bbc link] ... reminds me of the time i convinced my brother that a seagull had seized and carried off a small baby in our local town.

why we do it

john posted a nice hst image he made below - showing off some nice cluster lensing effects. we're lucky in this job to be able to create pretty stunning images. yesterday's apod was a classic - the merging nuclei of the antennea galaxies. it's just an amazing image - only what you can't see in this zoomed version is the long tidal tails stretching back way out into space - pulled apart from the tidal interaction. i can't imagine not wanting to know how this stuff works:
