summer breeze makes me feel good

john and i are listening to radio 2 -- they are playing some real klassics right now. we're getting ready for those first cool beers on kingsgate. we're probably sloping off about 4:30 to the boozer.

lovely day

what a beautiful day! the sun is out, and the route to work this morning was a joy. now in the office, i have moved the spider plant next to the window to soak up some rays. hopefully we can knock off early today and have a few cold beers in the afternoon sun. will pitch this idea at coffee.

a few of us went to the quiz last night and came second (i think), although we did fairly crap in some of the rounds. next week steve says it will be his last for a while, so it would be good if we could get a big team out and win it.

today i'm going to wrestle with some 24um imaging...

this might be relevant to The Challenge

whisky club... greg's challenge

we had whisky club 3 last night at mr crain's house. a very pleasant evening, despite the slight eclectic geography of the selection, throwing craig's map into disarray. it was all going well until rob brought down his 16 year old... bowmore that is. sweet sweet bowmore.

it was only meant to provide an extra measure for those who had missed out on the last drops of the previous bottle. then noam suggested we purchase the rest of the bottle from rob. £5 each. we did, and the rest is history. that's quite a lot of whisky that got drunk last night, and i feel greg may be regretting his milk challenge: to drink 4 (or 8?) pints of full fat milk in half an hour, without chundering. i suspect that the nature of the Challenge will be discussed at length at coffee this morning.

i, for one, don't feel too bad at all this morning - it just shows you what a difference the 'good stuff' makes.

the danger of sitting under trees

john and me just had a rather dissapointing lunch on the library lawn. we sat under a tree eating our horrible 'wraps', and crisps (john also had a coke, but i didn't). i got shat on by a bird (of the feathered kind) -- the effluent seems to be indellible. i've tried washing it off to no avail. john suggests that it may be down to the type of berries our avian friend may have been eating. cheers john

mind hacking -- update

so i was looking at the blog which goes with the mind hacks book, and came across these brilliant real-life optical illusions: http://www.2loop.com/3drooms.html

basically you can create mind-melting effects when the room is viewed from certain angles (think simpson's episode where they re-build flander's house with the impossible corridor).

my next project is to try the experiment outlined in Feynman's book Surely You're Joking, in which he is able to control and manipulate his dreams.
